Willowbrook High School Bands
The band program at Willowbrook High School offers several curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular ensembles that allow students to showcase their musical achievements. Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band are curricular ensembles/classes that meet daily at Willowbrook High School. Co-curricular ensembles include the Marching Warriors and Pep Band, and extracurricular ensembles include Jazz Ensembles I & II and Color Guard.
The Willowbrook High School band program has attained a reputation of excellence both within the State of Illinois and throughout the United States. The Wind Ensemble has been a frequent participant at the University of Illinois Superstate Concert Band Festival and at several clinics and festivals throughout the Midwest, and the program has received numerous honors for excellence in performance. In recent years, the band has traveled to the University of Illinois, Northwestern University, Illinois State University, St. Louis, MO, Nashville, TN, and Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.
John Clemons was appointed Director of Bands at Willowbrook High School in 2016. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Clemons studied at Northwestern University, where he earned the Master of Music degree in wind conducting and was a student of Dr. Mallory Thompson. From 2011-2014, he served as Assistant Director of Bands at Libertyville High School, where ensembles under his direction performed at local, state, and national festivals and consistently received superior ratings. In 2011, he earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was a four-year member of the Wind Symphony, Marching Illini, Basketball Band, and Clarinet Choir. A native of Tinley Park, Mr. Clemons has been active in the Chicagoland area as a conductor, clinician, and adjudicator, including guest conducting appearances with the Harper College Wind Symphony and Chamber Winds, the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble, and the North Suburban Wind Ensemble. Mr. Clemons would like to thank all of his teachers, past and present, for their guidance and support, especially: Greg Bimm, Bobby Lambert, Don Shupe, Joseph Manfredo, Pete Griffin, and Dan Romano.
